Winter Skin Blues :(

Anyone who knows me knows how much I don’t like winter, not only because it’s cold and driving is a pain in the butt, but also because it makes my skin so dehydrated. Dehydrated skin is something a lot of us Canadians suffer from because of our extreme weather. A lot of people associate dehydrated skin with dry skin but there is a difference. Dry skin is a skin type and it means that your skin is lacking oil whereas dehydrated skin is a skin condition and means your skin is lacking water. So now you are probably wondering “my skin feels dry, which one do I have?” Well the easiest way to tell the difference is, if you have dry skin you will have small pores and if you have dehydrated skin your skin will be flaky. Unfortunately dehydrated skin can and probably will happen to everyone. Even those of you out there thinking your oily skin is safe .... it’s not.
It’s important for everyone to take some extra precautions during the winter months. A few things that we can do to protect our skin from dehydration could include using a more nourishing moisturizer. This will help to prevent moisture loss at the same time adding moisture to your skin. A night cream will help to repair your skin overnight and add more moisture due to the increased oil content. Adding a serum to your skin care regime is also a great boost for your skin. A serum is a concentrated product enriched with vitamins and nutrients meant to penetrate into the deep layers of our skin where it will have the most impact. Lastly exfoliating once a week at home will remove the dead skin cells allowing for better penetration of your serum and moisturizer. These few steps will help your skin feel and look great all winter!
